Creating a comprehensive inventory can feel like a daunting task, but we built VerifAEye to make it as efficient and painless as possible. Here are our top tips for systematically documenting your home and securing your two critical points of proof (Ownership and Value) long before you need them.
The Optimal Workflow
1. Go Room by Room
The biggest mistake is trying to tackle the entire house in one day. Focus on one space at a time. Finish the living room, then the kitchen, then the bedrooms. Breaking the task into manageable chunks makes it feel less overwhelming and ensures you don't miss anything.
2. Optimize Your Photography
Your smartphone camera is the foundation of your verification, and good quality input dramatically improves AI accuracy.
- Lighting is Essential: Ensure rooms are well-lit. Open curtains, turn on overhead lights, and avoid taking photos directly into a bright window. Good lighting results in higher-quality photos and more accurate automated analysis.
- Multiple Items, One Shot: You don't need to photograph items individually. VerifAEye's AI is powerful; it will automatically scan your photos and identify multiple distinct items within a single frame. Group items on a table or photograph entire shelves at once.
- Identify High-Value Details: While the AI does the heavy lifting for bulk items, high-value assets need your specific attention. For electronics, appliances, and high-end goods, take photos that clearly display the make and model, and manually add these details if the analysis needs refinement.
Verification vs. Claim Time
3. Review Before You Save
When you submit photos for analysis, the app provides a breakdown. You get the opportunity to review this analysis before it is saved permanently to your inventory. We use a specific phrase in the app for a very important reason:
"Nobody knows your home like you do."
This review phase is your moment to check for potential issues before finalizing the record. Check that the analysis correctly identifies the items in the room. If the AI identified a 'coffee maker' but missed the 'blender' on the counter, or got a make or model wrong, correct it now. This ensures your inventory is precise before an emergency, rather than trying to prove it during claim time.
Flexible Editing and Security
4. Choose Your Editing Environment (App vs. Spreadsheet)
Once your initial inventory is created through analysis, you can edit details directly within the VerifAEye mobile app.
We understand that for some large lists, working on a phone can be tedious. To solve this, you can export your list to Excel or Google Sheets. You are free to edit, organize, and finalize your inventory details on your desktop if you find it easier.
CRUCIAL STEP: If you choose the spreadsheet route, you must import the updated list back into the VerifAEye app. This is the only way to ensure the completed inventory, combined with the original photos, is stored safely in our secure cloud, completely out of harm's reach.
Maximum Proof
5. Receipts: The Final Layer of Proof
Photos prove what you owned. Receipts prove what it was worth. We have made adding this third required point of a prima facie case incredibly easy.
Use the dedicated Receipt Function to upload receipts straight into the app.
VerifAEye will review any receipts uploaded, extract the crucial data, and:
- Sync the receipt to an existing item if you have already photographed it.
- Create a new item automatically, using the receipt data as the foundation, if you haven't photographed it yet.
The Final Polish: Check Your Coverage
Once you're done, compare the total estimate to your contents sum insured to make sure you have enough to replace everything should you ever need to, and that you have included things like your carpets, floating floors, curtains, drapes, unfixed appliances, etc.
Each policy is different, so if you have any questions or are unsure if something is covered under building or contents, be sure to speak with your broker or insurer to get the clarity you need and avoid frustration or disappointment at claim time.
Keep It Alive
Remember, this is a living document, so make sure to keep adding any new items you purchase to your inventory so that:
- A. You can quickly reassess your coverage each policy renewal, and
- B. Should you ever need to claim, you have everything you need in one place to keep your stress levels to a minimum.
Fast, Stress-Free Claims
If your inventory is 100% up to date, you can then take advantage of the super simple claim feature we have built into the app. With a few clicks, you can select the items you need to add to your claim — by room, category, or the complete list — and generate a detailed claim report to send to your insurer. This will help get your claim assessed and settled fast, with no stress, allowing you to focus on your family and getting back into your home.
